Soozy Roberts is a multi-disciplinary artist who works with photography, sculpture, installation, video and performance. She explores the body, objects and environment as an accumulative site for work, in a surreal and darkly humorous nature.
Roberts' work draws inspiration from the over-manipulated, mass-produced imagery that we are exposed to on a daily basis. Intrigued by how we wade through this 'live' and 'recorded' visual matter, her work highlights the idiosyncrasies of modern life and our relationship to the material and technological world. Intrigued by social media and the excessive materiality that bombards us, Roberts questions how this all-consuming, visual debris connects to our sense of self and identity.
Roberts' work uses common motifs and objects to explore the self, unspoken anxieties and our relationship with the public world. She questions the political through the domestic, addressing poignant issues around the body, in a world obsessed with beauty and glamour. Roberts' work is flavoured by memories relating to family, femininity, Welshness and domesticity.
Soozy has shown work at SITE Festival (Stroud), Chapter Arts Centre (Cardiff), Studio 1:1 (London), Glynn Vivian (Swansea) Arnolfini (Bristol), Points d’Impact Festival (Geneva), National Review of Live Art (Glasgow), and was winner of the Sir Leslie Joseph Young Artist Award 2008 (Swansea).
