How does it feel to live and work in one of the most significant modernist houses? Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, we worked closely with the National Trust in the time of their tenancy of Dartington's High Cross House, which was built for the first headteacher of Dartington Hall School.
The National Trust project manager identified that working with the Soundart community radio was key to ensuring that students had a positive, yet high-quality educational experience. Soundart were able to bring in expertise and experience with community engagement that complemented the NT skillset.

Soundart Radio volunteers, National Trust volunteers and students from King Edward VI Community College, came together throughout 2013 to record memories of life in the house dating from the 1930s up to the present day. The recordings were then used in several ways to share our finding with local people - as a sound installation for visitors to the house, as radio broadcasts, and as a CD which was given to all those who had taken part.
