First Spark 2026

A festival celebrating Imbolc with radio rituals and live performances.

Welcome to the 2026 First Spark festival at Soundart Radio, where we celebrate the mid-point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox with creative responses to the sparks of new light, electricity, transmission and inspiration, coinciding with the ancient Festival of Imbolc or Candlemas.
 
Saturday 31st January

This year we are excited to host artists from home and afar - we are welcoming RE#SISTER with members of this group traveling from The Netherlands specially to visit our station and lead workshops and performances with our community.

RE#SISTER is a community of women and non-binary artists, musicians and experimentalists who regularly come together in and around the electronic music studio of WORM, Rotterdam, to make music together, support and learn from each other. ERGO PHIZMIZ & LOTTIE DEPRESSTIVAL

Regular broadcasters and prolific artists lead weekly Saturday afternoon workshops culminating in a collaborative performance at our First Spark Festival on January 31st - anyone can sign up to one or all the sessions in the series (must be aged 16+) no experience necessary - just a love of play and willingness to explore live on air!  Read more

LUCINDA GUY

Co-founder of Soundart Radio, composer, singer and radio artist is welcoming community members to visit the Skylark studio on Sunday February 1st to sing songs for Candlemas. Skylark - our sister station - is a licensed, automated radio station for Dartmoor National Park that plays an algorithmically generated, continuous sound piece, made up of sounds captured within its broadcast range. Lucinda will then be threading back to Soundart Radio to bring the songs into a participatory ritual forming a ceremony for Candlemas to close the First Spark Festival on Monday February 2nd.  Read more
